comparison of aberrations after photorefractive keratectomy using tissue saving and personalized techniques
Authors
abstract
purpose: to compare the effects of standard tissue saving method and personalized techniques of photorefractive keratectomy (prk) on aberration changes in fellow eyes. methods: this randomized controlled trial was performed on patients who were referred to isfahan parsian clinic during 2007. after a comprehensive ophthalmologic examination, prk was randomly performed using tissue saving (ts) technique in one eye and personalized (p) technique in the fellow eye. aberrometry was performed pre- and 6 months postoperatively. results: this study included 296 eyes of 148 (67 male and 81 female) patients with mean age of 29.1±7.0 years. the two groups had no significant difference in terms of laterality, pupil size and level of myopia preoperatively (p=0.65). uncorrected visual acuity was 20/25 or more in 88.9% of the ts group and 92.6% of the p group (p=0.83). mean refractive error 6 months postoperatively was -0.50±0.36 diopter (d) in the ts group and 0.31±0.43 d in the p group (p=0.95). mean root-mean-square (rms) value was -0.41±0.17 preoperatively and 0.86±0.43 postoperatively in the group ts (p<0.01). corresponding figures were 0.47±0.39 and 0.77±0.43 in the p group (p<0.01). the two groups did not differ regarding pre- and postoperative rms. conclusion: postoperative aberrations may be increased with both tissues saving and personalized techniques of prk with no significant difference between them in this regard

purpose: the aim of this study was to compare higher-order aberrations between personalized treatment (pt) versus personalized treatment advanced (pta) photorefractive keratectomy (prk) for myopia and myopic astigmatism. methods: in this clinical trial, 80 eyes of 40 patients who met inclusion criteria were enrolled. they underwent prk using pt or pta algorithm randomly. higher-order aberration...

PURPOSE To compare changes in the corneal wavefront aberrations after photorefractive keratectomy and laser in situ keratomileusis. METHODS In a prospective randomized study, 22 patients with bilateral myopia received photorefractive keratectomy on one eye and laser in situ keratomileusis on the other eye. The procedure assigned to each eye and the sequence of surgery for each patient were ra...

Two patients developed corneal ectasia after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). Case 1 had evidence of early keratoconus preoperatively, with manifest refractions of -4.00 +2.50 x 160 (20/20) in the right eye and -7.00 +3.00 x 180 (20/30) in the left eye; thin corneas (472 microm and 441 microm, respectively); and inferior paracentral steepening in the right eye and central steepening in the le...

To the Editor: We thank Drs. Talamo and Abad and Mr. Lim (Refractive Regression after Excimer Laser Photorefractive Keratectomy. J Refract Surg 1996;12:757[letter]) for their comments and are gratified that their findings support our hypothesis that the refractive regression after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is not a result of the thicker regrowth of connnective tissue or epithelium in th...

PURPOSE To compare the efficacy and side effects of loteprednol versus fluorometholone after myopic photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). METHODS One hundred and twenty four eyes of 62 patients who underwent PRK were enrolled in this study. One eye of each subject was randomized to receive loteprednol 0.5% and the fellow eye was given fluorometholone 0.1%. Patients were followed up for three mon...
